IT was in 1912 in Dr. Eder's beautiful villa at K.itzbiihel in the Austrian Tyrol that at his request I promised to translate his work ''Geschichte der Photographie'' (4th ed., 1932) for the benefit of the English-speaking student of the subject. The demands of the German publishing house and the changed political conditions in Germany which followed put a stop to the chance of publication at that time.
Notwithstanding its seeming Chauvinism, the work is unique, and it is a monument to Dr. Eder's long years of study and an eloquent witness to his accomplishments.
