In the papers included here, the author has sought to bring out more clearly some of the issues discussed by the philosophers of the Indian and Western traditions. To achieve analytical clarity he has avoided 'dead translations' into English of source materials contained in Sanskrit texts. He has also given occasionally a reconstruction and interpretation of the available textual materials. What we get as a result is an authentic and analytic treatment of some important debates on perennial philosophical issues. In his presentation Professor Bhattacharya has also brought out how much the form and content of some of these debates have been determined by the cultural milieu of the debaters.
