Systematische Anleitung zur Theorie und Praxis der Mnemonik, nebst den Grundlinien zur Geschichte und Kritik dieser Wissenschaft
Description:... "First and only edition of Aretin's most comprehensive work on mnemonics. It is divided into 4 parts: the first 3 describing the theory, practice and history of mnemonics, and the 4th its scientific foundation. The extensive part on the history is described in the Encyclopedia Britannica as 'the fullest history of mnemonics'. Only the first part on theory was translated into Dutch in 1810, the later parts never appeared. Johann Christoph Freiherr von Aretin (1773-1824) was a German bibliographer, historian and jurist who had already published two shorter works on mnemonics. He also setup a lithograph printing press together with Senefelder in 1806, and although the plates in the present work are described as 'Kupfertafeln' on the title-page, they appear to be early examples of lithography."--Antiquarian bookseller's description.
