Ein Pogrom im Juni
Fotos antisemitischer Schmierereien in Berlin, 1938
Description:... In June 1938 anti-Jewish riots broke out in Berlin, during which Jewish shops throughout the city were smeared with anti-Jewish graffiti and in some cases plundered. Far from being spontaneous, the pogrom was well organized. The riots of June 1938 had precedents in the previous stage of Nazi rule, and served as a dress rehearsal for the "Kristallnacht" pogrom in November 1938. Despite a Nazi prohibition, some photograpers managed to take photos clandestinely. Two reels of these photos are now in the archives of the Centrum Judaicum in Berlin. Presents a sample of photographs showing views of Jewish shops after the "besmirching riots" of June 1938.
