Inside Stories
Study Guides for Children's Literature
Description:... Each of the five Inside Stories books contains 10 study guides to quality literature for a suggested reading range and include a variety of literary genres. The series includes classic and contemporary titles appropriate for gifted readers in grades 2-8. Step-by-step questions, written for use with gifted and talented students, are based on Bloom's Taxonomy. Each study guide comes with a cover page for teachers including:
- a brief author biography,
- a synopsis,
- themes,
- literary objectives, and
- companion titles.
Study guides divide each literary work into five or six manageable reading assignments, focusing on vocabulary, elements of literature, the techniques of an author's style, inferences, and theme. At the conclusion, summary questions help students apply, synthesize, analyze, and evaluate each novel. Enrichment activities are listed at the end of each guide for teachers looking for multidisciplinary extensions. Originally written by teachers for gifted students, these ready-to-use materials provide an easy vehicle to teach literature appreciation and analysis to all students. Questions are designed to test student comprehension and draw the reader into higher-level thinking. Using these materials will generate creative and critical thinking and application to the reader's personal life, so the questions are open-ended, rather than focused on a definitive answer. These materials make reading and discussing literature stimulating and fun for both the teacher and the students!
This book includes study guides for Caddie Woodlawn; Ben and Me; The Door in the Wall; Freedom Train; The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe; The Midnight Fox; Dear Mr. Henshaw; Island of the Blue Dolphins; My Side of the Mountain; and From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler.
