This work aims to show that we have evidence and proof of man's immortal spiritual nature in certain Psychic phenomena, such an abundance of which is given in the work as to make it as interesting as any fairy tale. Before publishing the work, Mr. Tuttle asked his friends, who were willing to do so, to subscribe for copies in advance. Among others who did so were two European noblemen. When the book was published and sent to its subscribers, one of these noblemen sent Mr. Tuttle, instead of the price of the book, a hundred pound of Bank of England note, as a token of his profound appreciation of his excellence.
"I arise from the perusal of Psychic Science with delight. No a paragraph that is not eminently attractive." -Hester M. Poole
"A veritable mint of sterling treasure." -Detroit Commercial Advertiser
"A book of originality and curious interest, even if the reader does not accept his theories and conclusion." -Home Journal
"A believer in spiritualism, but not one of the irreverent and offensive sort." -The Congregationalist
"Has the sound of a new philosophy." -Independent
"Gives the evidence of psychic ether, thought-atmosphere, thought-transference, sensitiveness, the relations of body and spirit, the physical and psychic evolution, and other kindred topics. The tone and spirit of the work is scientific, and the grouping of the facts are clear and convincing. As a new view of this mysterious realm of mind and matter it is charming and suggestive, and will well repay a careful reading. We commend the book to all students of psychology." -Quarterly Journal of Inebriety, Volume 11, 1890
"The name of Hudson Tuttle is a household word wherever Spiritualism has penetrated. He shares with a few writers the advantage which he has observed in the presence of other mediums. His own psychical gifts are rich and fully developed, and he has given over a third of a century to the careful study of the subject of which he writes. The work concludes with a communication from a spirit whose life had been noble and unselfish, giving an account of death or birth into the world of spirit. This is the general scope of the book. When we come to study the various chapters we find them interspersed with many illustrative narratives chosen with discrimination and, usually, very apposite....An excellent disquisition on the sensitive state in all its varied phases....We hope to cause a desire among our readers to study the book for themselves. We promise them plenty of material for thought, and most will find some opportunity for divergence of opinion in matters of detail. From the broad conclusions no Spiritualist will dissent." -Light: A Journal of Psychical, Occult, and Mystical Research, Volume 9, 1889
