Knowledge-based Systems
Fundamentals and Tools
Description:... This tutorial text, a collection of selected papers preceded by extensive introductory material, is intended particularly for practicing computer engineers and scientists, as well as for advanced undergraduate or graduate students who want to refine their conceptual and practical appreciation of the fundamentals and tools of knowledge-based systems. The goal in choosing the 35 papers reviewed, which covers a publication span of nine years, is to both bring forth the recent and rapid evolution of the field, and give a brief and up-to-date account of where we stand today. This tutorial-integrated presentation selects papers that present fundamentals and tools, and provide copious references to other work in applications and research. The aim is to put into perspective the range of what is possible, and to avoid common pitfalls in the definition, development, management, and use of knowledge-based systems.
