Survivors Thrive
One View of the Battered Women's Movement
Description:... A small group of ordinary women came together, combined their skills and reached out to assist other women like themselves. Inch by inch, step by step they took action with innovative solutions to change the way society viewed domestic violence. They redirected what might have been negative emotions into positive action. In the process they learned they were not alone in advocating for radical change in the area of domestic violence. Formerly battered women and others empathetic to the cause were organizing all over the United States of America. The story is inspired by true stories and told in historic fiction to protect the privacy of those involved. This is one view of the movement slowly awakening the country with one path to peace - elimination of domestic violence. In this view abused women are some of the smartest, strongest, courageous, most creative and resilient women in the world. Those who survive thrive. To get the right answers we have to ask the right questions: why do we allow domestic violence to exist? Why does society allow and in some ways support this victimization? What are some solutions that will bring peace to our homes? Peace in our homes reshapes our thinking about world peace as the home is the first unit of civilization. What can you do to join the movement toward peace?
