Music in New Guinea
Three Studies
Description:... This volume is a collection of three studies on Papuan music from Western New Guinea published between 1927 and 1950. Recordings from three events provide the material here analyzed: the DutchAmerican New Guinea Expedition of 1926, led by ethnographer and topographer Mr. Ch. Ie Roux procured 14 phonograms of songs and music for the flute of the Takutamesso or Kauwerawèt tribe; an ethnographical exhibition at the Fourth Pacific Science Congress in Batavia, where people from the north coast of New Guinea, the Waropèn Coast, and the island of Yapèn, and some villages on the shores of Humboldt Bay performed; and finally from the author's visit to mountain tribes living in the Central Range and the region of Utah (southwest coast).
