Die Stadt als Lebensraum
eine kulturhistorische Analyse zum spätantiken Stadtleben in Norditalien
Description:... This study of urban transformation in northern Italy during Late Antiquity is based on a catalogue of evidence from five selected Roman cities: Mediolanum, Aquileia, Augusta Praetoria, Brixia and Verona, the latter two becoming Ostrogothic capitals. This archaeological catalogue is preceded by a discussion of the social, administrative, religious and economic setting of urban changes', placing the archaeological evidence in a cultural setting. Haug also explores changes in the relationship between towns and their rural surroundings. The study covers the period between the Tetrarchy and the death of Theodoric. German text, French and English summaries.
