Storia delle comunità ebraiche a Cremona e nella sua provincia
Description:... Ch. 13 (pp. 267-297), "Gli antisemiti", states that the worsening economic situation in Cremona from the late 15th century fuelled conflicts between Jews and Christians, especially concerning moneylending, taxes, and commercial rights. The preaching against the Jews by Dominicans and Franciscans during Christian celebrations also contributed to the poisoning of the atmosphere between the two groups. The community council, the guilds, and the Church were united in their efforts to obtain from the rulers of the State of Milano legislation restricting the economic and social life of the Jews, and then their expulsion. In 1596, under the rule of the Spanish King Felipe II, an expulsion was decreed and Jewish life in Cremona ended. Mentions influential families that were active in promoting the expulsion of the Jews.
