Thinking with Picture Books
Description:... hinking with Picture Books encourages children to participate in a focused analysis of their own work and that of their peers using the picture-book format. Using well-loved and well-written texts, teachers can concentrate on thinking skills in the classroom and develop the structure of discussions, the need for rigorous debate and reflective dialogue, and in doing so provide an authentic model for intellectual inquiry. Thinking with Picture Books allows teachers to access the many moraland philosophical issues interwoven in the storyline. Many of the texts will be familiar to children, encouraging participation in text discussion, wonderment, interpretation and investigation. By using picture books in this fashion, Thinking with Picture Books will help children improve cognitive skills and respect for their ideas and those of their peers.
