Primary Book Reporter
Independent Reading for Young Learners
Description:... Primary Book Reporter can be used with kindergarten and first-grade students who come to school already reading at a second-grade level, but have not yet advanced into chapter books. The primary purpose of this book is to help teachers of these young students to provide differentiated meaningful experiences for those students who are already reading. By the time the students reach second grade, they may have already had many of the stories read to them by parents or teachers. However, reading familiar stories themselves helps them apply reading strategies and improve their reading fluency.
These easy-to-use worksheets provide the perfect venue for letting primary students explore various types of books on their own. This motivating guide includes response sheets for:
- 16 series of books (Clifford, Amelia Bedelia, Curious George, Berenstain Bears, and more);
- 8 different genres of books (alphabet, fairy tales, fables, mysteries, and more); and
- 12 story components (setting, main events, characters, illustrations, and more).
Packed with forms students can easily use when they read independently, this book is perfect for classroom or home use. The response sheets were purposely kept relatively simple, with a minimum of writing required, for the purpose of encouraging independent reading. Your students will be ready for chapter books in no time!
When your students have reached a more advanced level and surpassed these activities, check out the first book of the Inside Stories series.
