Typical and Atypical Development in Early Childhood
Description:... The book is written with two broad aims. The first one is to present up-to-date information in an easy-to-access form in all domains of child development, an overview of how normal development is conceptualised and investigated, and how this foundation relates to understanding of and providing for the needs of those children whose developmental trajectories are affected by various conditions. Intervention in atypical development takes normal development as its yardstick. Secondly, it should serve as a common currency of communication for all persons involved in the care, treatment, education or welfare of young children, whose interests converge, despite the differences in approach, or the use of professional language employed by each group. [Preface, ed].
