During the "Kristallnacht" pogrom the synagogue was burned down, the cemetery was desecrated, and some Jews were imprisoned in a concentration camp for several weeks. After their release they were requested to leave Germany at once. Jewish enterprises were Aryanized. 30 members of the community left by the end of 1939, when 55 Jews remained in the region. In June 1941 the Jews had to leave their apartments and move into an old factory. In 1942, 24 Jews were deported to extermination camps. Eight privileged Jews, who lived in mixed marriages, were allowed to stay in their apartments, but in 1944 they were also deported.
