Distribution and Zoogeography of the Bivalvia of the Eastern Pacific Ocean
Description:... Review of the distribution of the marine bivalve fauna of the eastern Pacific Ocean from Bering Strait, Alaska to south of Cape Horn, Chile, based on the catalogue of Bernard (1983) and reworking of some new records of the Galapagos and Hawaiian Islands fauna. The review formulates and examines hypotheses concerning long and short term factors influencing the coast-wide distribution of the bivalve fauna and gives consideration to global effects of plate tectonics, continental displacement and environmental factors. Ordination and clustering techniques are used to examine the size and distribution of zoogeographic provinces and the characteristics of these provinces are described. Finally, the bivalve fauna of the Eastern Pacific islands are examined and discussed.
