Description:... A report of the experiences of a British soldier during and after the liberation of the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. He arrived with other British soldiers on 15 April 1945, and remained until August. Describes the epidemics which were rampant and also threatened others, and the need for an isolation hospital. States that of the 40,000 prisoners who survived, 25,000 were women; of those, 18,000 were Jewish, originally from Hungary, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Romania, and Germany. When the British soldiers arrived, 10,000 unburied corpses were lying in the camp. Mentions the evacuation of 29,000 persons, beginning on 24 April. 13,000 persons died after the arrival of the British army.
