The Red Republic
A Romance of the Commune
Description:... William Chambers (May 26, 1865 - December 16, 1933) was an American artist and writer. According to some estimates, Chambers was one of the most successful literary careers of his period, his later novels selling well and a handful achieving best-seller status. Many of his works were also serialized in magazines. About "The Red Republic," the New York Press wrote: "With all its rush and excitement there is a solid basis of painstaking and thoughtfulness in 'The Red Republic.' Mr. Chambers is wholly free from self-consciousness; indeed his gifts seem to be little short of genius. Wonderfully vivid and graphic." The New York Times wrote: "Mr. Chambers shows great familiarity with the many dreadful days of 1871m and Mr. Thiers's policy is critically examined. 'The Red Republic' abounds with action."
