Политический антисемитизм в современной России
Description:... Sociological surveys since the early 1990s show a relatively high level of popular antisemitism in Russia. Examines the main institutions which are bearers of antisemitism and able to disseminate it: political parties, periodicals, and religious institutions. Many parties in Russia espouse antisemitism; the most extreme are those of the radical right, "old rightists" (like the Black Hundred), ethnic nationalists, and radical neo-Stalinist parties (like Working Russia). The attitudes of Eurasianists and of "imperial nationalist" parties (like Zhirinovsky's Liberal Democrats) are inconsistent and contradictory. The main motifs of ideological antisemitism in Russia deal with social, conspiratory, religious, and to a lesser extent racist and anti-Zionist issues. One of the main sources of antisemitism is the Russian Orthodox Church, in particular its fundamentalist wing, and various dissident groups, like the Truly Orthodox Church (formerly the Catacomb Church). In the Muslim community, apart from the moderate official leadership there are powerful unofficial Muslim organizations which espouse aggressive antisemitism.
