Families in Flux
New Approaches to Meeting Workforce Challenges for Child, Elder & Health Care in the 1990s
Description:... During the past decade, changing family structures and roles have combined with a slower economy to expose serious weakness in the complex public/private web of social supports for America's families. This report focuses on three issues--child care, elder care, and health care--that affect millions of families regardless of income, race, and family composition and are at the top of the current social agenda. The authors suggest that, beyond current and pending legislation, a national parental leave standard, child care, and elder care would help employees care for new or ill children or elderly parents without risking loss of their jobs.
