Wilford Stirling Wilford
Description:... Over a period of 30 years the partnership of James Stirling Michael Wilford and Associates became one of the most renowned international architectural practices. This partnership ended with the death of Sir James Stirling in 1992. This book traces the evolution of that partnership into the current practice of Michael Wilford and Partners. Projects featured in the book, which were designed by James Stirling Michael Wilford and Associates and have been completed are: Temasek Polytechnic, Singapore, for 13,000 students and staff; Stuttgart Music School; the Science Library at the University of California, Irvine; and Number 1 Poultry, an office building in the City of London which is under construction. Work by Michael Wilford and Partners includes The Lowry Centre, Salford, combining facilities for visual and performing arts; Abando Passenger Interchange, with two railway stations and a central bus station in Bilbao, Spain; the British Embassy, Berlin; and four industrial projects for Sto AG in Germany. Alongside the 11 major projects are recent competition entries and schematic designs to illustrate work in progress. The book comprises sketches, drawings, models and photographs to explain the interlocking architectural strategies which underlie the projects and the evolving design philosophy of the practice.
