Stedman's Medical Equipment Words
Description:... This is a medical word resource book of medical equipment, devices, and instrument names. It is a compilation of more than 75,000 entries, fully cross-indexed, built from a base vocabulary of 38,000 medical equipment, device, and instrument terms. It includes generic, trade, and eponymic names. The book also contains 12 commonly performed surgical procedures and their corresponding instrumentation. The purpose is to provide an easy-to-use reference list of medical equipment, devices, and instruments used in hospitals, clinics, and doctors' offices. The primary audience will be medical transcriptionists and medical secretaries. Other allied health professionals and court reporters may also find the book useful. The book is an extensive alphabetical listing of medical equipment, device, and instrument names. The word list is in an index-like main entry/subentry format that contains two combined alphabetical listings. The first is a noun main entry/subentry organization typical of the alphabetical section of medical dictionaries. The second list is an adjective main entry/subentry organization, which lists words and phrases as a person hears them pronounced. This is a unique medical terminology type book. Medical equipment, device, and instrument names are some of the hardest terms to identify and spell for a medical transcriptionist or secretary. This is the only book I have ever encountered that has such an extensive listing. The author is a recognized expert in the medical transcription field and has enlisted the help of an equally credible group of contributors. This book would be an excellent reference for a medical transcription department or other health care department that needs ready access to medical and surgical terminology. -LouAnn Schraffenberger.
