Thus, he looks at 1 Corinthians in the context of the epistolary exchanges between Paul and the city of Corinth, focusing on the historical, cultural, and social settings. He offers insight on the possible presuppositions held by the Corinthians which shaped the letter, and argues that is must be viewed first and foremost as a letter from the apostle to a beloved church. If it is seen as a manual of church order, or a directory of public worship, or even a digest of canon law, its true message and implications will be missed.
