Juden in Bocholt
eine Dokumentation
Description:... Surveys the history of the Jews in Bocholt (North Rhine) from the 16th century. Many restrictions were imposed on the Jews during the 17th-18th centuries, but they were viewed as equal citizens during the 19th century and until the rise of the Nazi Party in 1930. Discusses the boycott of 1933, the exclusion of Jews from cultural and economic life, the public bookburning, the Nuremberg Laws, the liquidation and Aryanization of Jewish businesses, the emigration of Jews, and the "Kristallnacht" pogrom. Describes the deportations in 1941-42 to the ghetto in Riga, and from there to the concentration camps. Summarizes the history of two women survivors, one of them being Jeanette Wolff (see the biography by G. Lange in Vol. 3, no. 855).
