Tumors of the Prostate Gland, Seminal Vesicles, Penis, and Scrotum
Description:... "Since the publication of the last edition a decade ago, there have been numerous significant developments in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate and penile cancers, especially in the areas concerning the grading of prostate cancer, precursor lesions of prostate cancer, and clinical correlates with biopsy, including serum prostate-specific antigen, imaging techniques and genomic testing. Similarly for penile cancer, the etiological role of human papillomavirus has been elucidated, which resulted in a novel histological classification based on HPV status. This new knowledge is incorporated in all relevant chapters with updated reference lists throughout the book. Some chapters are completely rewritten. For example, the chapter on tissue-based biomarkers utilizing needle biopsy material is revamped and focuses on tissue-based molecular tests for risk stratification that are currently in use clinically, or likely to be in use in the near future. We retain the format that this Fascicle is known for and readers expect: a richly illustrated atlas with abundant images and diagrams to depict the morphological spectrum of disease entities. We maintain the tradition of emphasis on the gross and light microscopic diagnosis, and differential diagnosis. We present these immunohistochemistry and molecular pathology studies that are of current value in diagnosis. We also discuss relevant clinical features, including concise sections on clinical presentation, and the clinical meaning of the pathological diagnosis in terms of prognosis and treatment."--
