A Leaders Guide to ThriveAbility
A Multi-Capital Operating System for a Regenerative Inclusive Economy
Description:... Full Colour VersionWhat value does the ThriveAbility Approach add to sustainability as usual? Well, for a start, sustainability as usual is focused primarily on systemic technological, business model and infrastructure innovations, implemented mainly using systems and complexity theory approaches. In ThriveAbility we acknowledge that this is a good place to start, however, to truly transform a human activity system requires a deeper understanding of the context within which such innovations are launched and adopted. This context includes systems, plus various cultures, individual values and behaviors. The drawback to relying solely upon technology to improve our lot is that it imposes its own logic on how we behave and what we consider to be good, beautiful, true and just i.e. thriveable. The rather chaordic transition we are now in, between rational modernism (the source of the logic of the so far degenerative, exclusive Anthropocene), and the next phase of a regenerative, inclusive Anthropocene (the "Thrivocene"?), can only be successfully navigated by a much more regenerative and inclusive (even "Integral") governance and transformation framework. The ThriveAbility Framework does not prescribe a "Before" and "After" description of the human activity system we are engaged in shifting to a more thriveable state. It is flexible because it only requires decisions to be made at the specific level of the intervention concerned- for example, a city or a region. This then allows for emergence at higher and lower levels of scale- a generative, not a prescriptive approach.
