The lectures, out of which the following chapters have grown, were delivered to classes of students and graduates who were attending the clinical teaching of the Children's Hospital. The subject was therefore approached from a purely clinical standpoint, the aim being to afford such in formation as might render the hospital and dispensary work more interesting and instructive.
