Kanta and the Deer
Description:... A beautiful children1s story originally published in Tokyo, Japan, in 1989. This English translation by Kyoko Selden has charming color illustrations by Christina Sun. The book tells the story of a little boy named Kanta, who lives way up in the mountains, and a magic deer. While out in the snow with his relatives, hunting wild asparagus, Kanta finds a young deer that is weeping in the shadow of a tree. He takes the fawn home, names him Poyu, and raises him through the summer. But there is something unusual about Poyu. He grows so much faster than the rest of the deer. It is like magic. When hunting season returns with the snow, Poyu disappears and Kanta must find him again.
