Eucalypt Flowers
Description:... Features over 100 stunning images, drawn from the collections of the National Library of Australia. Covering two and a half centuries, it presents some of the best in eucalypt botanical illustration by 45 well-known and lesser-known artists and engravers. Artists range from the image of Eucalyptus crebra by Sydney Parkinson, who sailed into Botany Bay in 1770 with Cook's Endeavour expedition, to contemporary practitioner Lauren Black's 2006 depiction of Eucalyptus coccifera. Others represented include Ferdinand Bauer, Frederick Polydore Nodder, George Raper, Louisa Anne Meredith, Ellis Rowan, Edward William Minchen, Margaret Flockton, Margaret Stones and Anita Barley. Botanical writer John Wrigley, Curator of the Australian National Botanic Gardens between 1967 and 1981, gives a historical context to the art and a concise description of the biology and ecology of eucalypts. He also provides fascinating comments to accompany many of the images.
