Joaquín Sorolla, 1863-1923
Description:... Joaquin Sorolla (1863-1923) is a master of Spanish modern painting and an influential figure in the history of art. To celebrate his accomplishments, the Museo Nacional del Prado has organized an ambitious exhibition and catalogue that place Sorolla among the pantheon of great Spanish painters: El Greco, Velázquez, and Goya.
The 138 works featured make up the most far-reaching exhibition devoted to a nineteenth-century painter in the Prado's history. Gathered here are paintings from collections and major museums in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, London, Venice, Paris, New York, Boston, Dallas, and St. Louis, including most notably Sorolla's exceptional set of panels entitled La Vision de Espana.
The book features detailed and up-to-date information on all the works, along with texts that explore and analyze Sorolla's paintings and his position both in Spanish art history and on the international scene.
