Having received a musical education and experience in Italy, he then moved to London, later became a British citizen.

The composer's grandfather, Valentine Handel, was a coppersmith from Breslau; in Halle he married the daughter of a master coppersmith Samuel Bijlenga. His son, Georg was a court Barber—surgeon who served the court of Brandenburg and Saxony, and an honorary citizen of Halle. When was born George Frederick, the first child of George by his second marriage, he was 63 years old.
The mother of Georg Friedrich Dorothea grew up in a family of a priest. When her brother, sister and father died from the plague, to the end she remained near them, and refused to leave them. George and Dorothea were married in 1683 in the electorate of Brandenburg. Handel's parents were very religious and were typical representatives of the bourgeois society of the late seventeenth century.
