The development of Cambodia’s legal system has been shaped by internal as well as external political challenges. The systematical extinction of the Cambodian intellectual elite by the Khmer Rouge in the late 1970s was associated with the destruction of the country’s legal system. To contribute to the development of an independent judiciary and effective legal system in Cambodia, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung publishes the book ‘Introduction to Cambodian Law’. The 20 articles, mainly written by Cambodian legal experts and scholars, outline the historical developments and current characteristics of important law sectors (i.e. Constitutional Law, Civil Law, Environmental Law, Land Law, Labor Law etc.). As the first of its sort in Cambodia, the publication will be an important source of information particularly for law students and legal experts. The book can be downloaded at the KAS Cambodia homepage as a PDF file.
