"Der letzte Jude hat den Tempel verlassen"
Juden in Niederösterreich 1938 bis 1945
Description:... Discusses the persecution and expulsion of Jews in Lower Austria and the destruction of their communities. In 1938 there were 15 Jewish communities: Amstetten, Baden, Gänserndorf, Gross-Enzersdorf, Hollabrunn, Horn, Krems, Mistelbach, Mödling, Neunkirchen, St. Pölten, Stockerau, Tulln, Waidhofen an der Thaya, and Wiener Neustadt. Between March 1938-May 1940 these communities were gradually dismantled. During the "Kristallnacht" pogrom, synagogues were desecrated or demolished. Jewish organizations were disbanded and their funds were confiscated. The Jews were expelled, deported, or murdered. Only Jews who lived in privileged mixed marriages and those who went into hiding survived.
