Description:... Organized in 1840 as the German Evangelical Church Society of the West. Several name changes occurred until 1925 it became the Evangelical Synod of North America. In 1934 the group united with the (German) Reformed Church in the United States to become the Evangelical and Reformed Church. In 1957 the group united with the General Council of Congregational Christian Churches to form the United Church of Christ.
