Die Kunst des Verweilens : Parallelinstallation für den Salzburger Kunstverein und das Centralhotel Gablerbräu ; [Salzburger Kunstverein 19. 07. 2006 bis 10. 09. 2006]
Description:... "Bernhard Cella's parallel installations, developed for Salzburg's Art Association and Central Hotel, create a direct connection between photographs taken in Paris in 2005, and the visual décor of the Central Hotel. A fair exchange takes place: The Kunstverein Salzburg, a semipublic institution, houses all of the pictures from the Central Hotel, out of context and in an archive, as is proper. Salzburg's Central Hotel, for its part, houses the artworks, evidence of an involuntary publicity, in its semipublic spaces. In his work, Cella is interested in the formal setting of street dwellers, their art of lingering, their canon of forms. Some of the sleeping quarters recall realities of life that have become selfrepresentations and their approaches bring to mind strategies from the fine arts. Language games, drawings, cardboard collages, collections of pictures around the sleeping quarters and, last but not least, ironic self descriptions and chains of argumentation of how their lives can create and stabilize meaning based on these forms: Your Self imprints on its respective location. Two art collections, two locations, two different reasons for visiting them. This is a form of art that, unlike the opera or cinema, does not help its grateful beholders to forget themselves, but instead, places in their hands the first link in a series of possible decisions. In his parallel installations, Bernhard Cella thus processes the silent question of how the locations, the pictures, and the Selves let themselves be relocated over the course of seven weeks"--Inside spine of folder.
